This easy berry jam is a household fave! Made with just three ingredients, this is a jam that's thick, spreadable, and has no sugar added. The secret is to use chia seeds! Perfect for toast, yogurt, or smoothies.
Why You'll LOVE This Chia Jam
This chia berry jam is going to blow your mind. Here's why:
- Free from added sugar. Since this jam is chia-based, it's already thick and gooey without relying on sugar, corn syrup, etc...
- Use ANY berry - blueberries, strawberries, raspberries...it's your world!
- Works perfectly with frozen fruit - in fact, it works even better than fresh fruit (bonus points for convenience).
My favourite thing about this chia jam recipe is that it creates the maximum possible fruity flavour. This is because you get to customize how much fruit goes into it without any fillers. Pure, clean, goodness!

Three Ingredient Chia Berry Jam
Ingredients
- 3 cups berries of your choice frozen is ideal
- 3 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1.5 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoon natural sweetener (e.g. honey, maple syrup, agave nectar) optional
Instructions
- Over medium heat, gently stir the berries with ~2 tablespoons of plain water to release juices. At ~5 min mark the berries should be bubbling but chunky. Immediatley turn off heat.
- Add chia seeds, lemon juice, and sweetener (optional) and stir. Let mixture cool off heat for about 10 minutes or until the chia seeds have swelled up, creaing a jammy texture. Crush any chunks with a wooden spoon until desired texture is achieved. Stir mix in another 3 tablespoons of plain water. Store in a glass jar in the fridge.
Notes
- Use any fruit, including berries, peach, cherries, guava, passion fruit etc. I don't reccomend using apple, banana, or watermelon.
- If fruit of your choice is already juicy (e.g. pineapple), reduce the amount of water in the recipe by half.
- Mix in spices if desired, such as cinnamon or grated ginger.
How To Make Chia Jam
This jam is easy as pie. First, cook down the fruit on low-med heat for about 5-10 minutes while gently stirring to let the juices release. Then, add in 2 tablespoon of chia seeds and stir.
Add in a squeeze of lemon juice and/or natural sweetener (e.g. maple syrup) to taste.
If you prefer a thicker jam, cook down the jam for a bit longer. If you prefer a runnier jam, add in a little water or fruit juice. You get the drill...adjust until its perfect for you.
How Thick Should the Chia Jam Be?
- Thick jam is best if you're going to use it as a spread: on toast, cakes, crackers.
- Thin jam is best if you're going to use it like a syrup: on pancakes, ice cream, cocktails.
For versatility, I recommend making the jam a bit thicker - you can always thin it out with some juice later if needed.

How To Store Chia Jam
Keep it in the fridge for up to a week. Don't store this jam at room temperature or else green fuzzy stuff will grow on it!
